Save Oswit Canyon Presentation

There have been some very positive developments regarding Oswit Canyon (if you’re not familiar, it’s west of S. Palm Canyon and is home to endangered Bighorn sheep and some of the most spectacular hiking trails in Palm Springs).  It  was slated for development but due to the work of the Save Oswit Canyon group, we now have the potential to purchase and  preserve this gorgeous environment.  You can learn more here: https://saveoswitcanyon.org .

Please join us on Tuesday, October 8th, 6:30 pm in Room 2, 3rd floor, the center, 1301 N. Palm Canyon, Palm Springs. Jane Garrison, the founder of the Save Oswit Canyon Organization will be our special guest and will give a talk all about the canyon and its current status.  Jane has worked on animal, environmental and social issues for decades. She has appeared on CNN, Animal Planet, National Geographic, the Today Show and many others for her work around the world.  For the past 3 years, Jane has been 100 percent focused on saving Oswit Canyon.

It takes tens of thousands of years for an alluvial fan to form, and the Oswit Cone in South Palm Springs is one of the top eco-tourist destinations in Palm Springs, bringing in thousands of hikers, photographers, artists and nature lovers every year from around the world.

Unfortunately, this very last undeveloped alluvial fan was slated for a massive housing development. We took it upon ourselves to prevent the permanent destruction of this geological, historical and biologically unique place in our city.
