PS - Hike: Pioneertown Mountain Preserve

We will hike the Indian Loop in the Pioneertown Mountain Preserve. This route is 6.7 miles, has 1000-1100' elevation gain, and has sandy trails, rocky trails, some stream crossings, and a lot of brush along the trails. The starting elevation is 4400' so the weather is a good bit cooler than the CV. The preserve is north of Yucca Valley and just north of Pioneertown village. There is a mile of dirt road to get to the parking lot. For more information on the Preserve - click here

Hiking time: 4 hours

Hiking distance: 6.7 miles

Elevation gain: 1100'

Pace: moderate, with many breaks

Meet at:  Carl's Jr on the corner of North Palm Canyon and Racquet Club in Palm Springs - Google Map click here - at 8:20 AM for a departure at 8:30. Driving time to trail head is 45-50 minutes. 

Carpooling is encouraged and may be available if offered by driver. You are responsible for arranging you own transportation or ride share. Arrive a few minutes early for briefing and carpooling.

Bring:

  • 2 liters of water, snacks and/or lunch. Gaiters will be helpful for the sandy washes, and poles will be helpful for stream crossings and rocky inclines; long sleeves and pants will be helpful for thorny plants.
  • Bring Ten Essentials (click here), water (1 to 2 liters recommended), trail snacks. Sun protection and layered clothing are recommended. Carry Emergency Contact Information (ICE). Hiking poles may be helpful.
  • Sturdy hiking footwear with good tread and adequate drinking water are required.
