Special exhibit: Arthur Beaumont: Art of the Sea

This exhibit features a stunning array of watercolors by artist Arthur Beaumont,

capturing the grandeur of the sea and vessels that sail on it.

Throughout his career, Arthur Beaumont (1890-1978) sought to create an artistic record of the accomplishments of the U.S. Navy, from launching the USS Constitution to the fierce battles of World War II, atomic bomb tests and expeditions to the North Pole. He served in an official capacity and as a freelance artist for the Navy until his death 45 years later, in 1978.

His body of work includes numerous portraits of specific vessels, including mighty aircraft carriers and destroyers as well as personal yachts of presidents and celebrities. Beaumont aimed to portray not only admirals but also common sailors and soldiers.

Many ongoing exhibits:

The Ancient Arts of China (and many more!)

Curated by scholars of Chinese history and culture from the Shanghai Museum, this incredible collection portrays the evolution of Chinese art and culture. From large painted ceramic pots used during the Neolithic period, to sculptures of camels and horses made at the height of the Silk Road, to beautiful embroidered silk court robes and ivory carvings from the 19th century, this exhibition presents the importance of fine art made to be admired during life and depended on in the ‘afterlife’.

Gemstone Carvings: Masterworks by Harold Van Pelt (and many more!)

For over 35 years Harold Van Pelt has quietly been perfecting the art of carving quartz, rock crystal and agate gemstones. is a display of his mastery.
