Anza Borrego Palm Canyon Loop

Join us for our first weekday bi- monthly San Diego excursions. This week we will hike the popular Borrego Palm Canyon Loop Trail. This tail takes you to the third (3rd) largest California Fan Palm oasis in the state of California. This palm oasis is still closed, as it is still recovering from a fire several years ago. This trail is a 3 mile heavily trafficked loop trail within Anza Borrego State Park which is near Borrego Springs, California. We will cross the creek along the trail several times, so you may get your feet wet. Bighorn sheep are often observed along this trail, so we may get lucky and see a few sheep (borrego). There will be some desert wildflowers blooming, but this will be before peak bloom. Bring your lunch to have during a scenic stop on the hike! This is an open invite to members or non-members and requires an RSVP (limited to 15 hikers). Please be sure to mask-up when appropriate and social distance on the trail, which is very easy.
After the hike we strongly recommend that you visit the Anza-Borrego Desert State Park Visitor Center. The park staff and volunteers can give you maps on locations for best wildflower viewing on the day of the visit. Additionally, you can see many of the native desert plants at the center on the adjacent 0.4 mile trails.

Parking: There is a nice sized parking lot at the trailhead.
Cost: $10.00 day pass or Annual State Park Pass (obtain on your own at the gate upon arrival)
