PS - Hike: Idyllwild & Lunch

Let's go for a hike in Idyllwild. Its cooler hiking at 5500 ft. We will begin the hike at the Idyllwild Nature Center after briefly viewing their displays and exhibits. The hike will take place on the Summit Trail and Perimeter Trail for a total of 3 miles with an elevation gain of 712 feet making this a overall moderate hike. 1 mile of the hike is difficult with a steep up and down. The balance of the miles on more level ground is easy and moderate.  The scenery will be beautiful with manzanita groves, pine trees, boulders, and views. All hikers are invited to an optional lunch after the hike on the outdoor balcony of the Idyllwild Brewpub near the trailhead. The distance to the Idyllwild Nature Center from our meeting place is 42 miles and is a 1 hour and 5-minute drive. Rides may be offered at the meeting place. Admission to the Idyllwild Nature Center is $4 per person.

  • Difficulty Rating: Moderate (Note:  one section will be have a steep up and down).

Meeting Location: Meet at 7:45 am at the Carl's Jr. parking lot at Racquet Club and Palm Canyon in Palm Springs (click here) for an 8 am departure.  Please be on time. 

Bring: Ten Essentials, water (2 to 3 liters recommended), lunch/ snacks, sun protection, layered clothing, hiking poles may be helpful. Carry emergency contact information. Sturdy hiking footwear with good tread and adequate drinking water are required.

Weather Policy: Inclement weather cancels.

Carpooling is encouraged and may be available if offered by driver. You are responsible for arranging your own transportation or ride share. Arrive a few minutes early for briefing and carpooling. 

Health Problems/allergies  Discuss any medical concerns with the hike leader that may affect your ability to complete the hike.
