PS - HIKE: SUNSET HIKE AND DINE

Experience Shangra-La in the cool mountain air on a late summer evening and enjoy the sunset from top of the tram.  We will hike through pine forest in Long Valley to a secluded scenic overlook surrounded by granite boulder formations where few people visit. We will return to the Mountain Station at  6:30 PM for dinner at the Pines Cafe. Ride and Dine ticket applicable.

Meet at Valley Tram Station at 3:30 pm.  We will board the  tram  departing at 4:00 PM. If you need to purchase a ticket or pass, arrive in time to purchase a ticket for the 4:00 pm tram.  

  • Length: 2.5 miles 
  • Type: Out and Back Hiking Time: 2 hours
  • Elev. Gain/(Loss): +350 feet
  • Difficulty: Moderate-, some off trail hiking with uneven rough surfaces and vegetation in granite boulder area
  • Sunset is at 6:33 pm

You are welcome to join us for dinner if you can’t make the hike. Annual and Summer Pass holders receive 10% off regular cost of dinner.

Adult Tram ticket $30.95 Senior $28.95. Ride and dine $41. Parking fee waived for pass holders and local residents. 

The Pines Café offers the Pines Ride and Dine menu. You can get at ticket at 4 pm with the meal beginning at 4:30 pm. 'This is an exceptional culinary journey that combines breathtaking views with a delectable two-course meal. Begin with a salad that includes shredded cheese, her croutons and your choice of dressing. The entrees are served with your choice of two sides. Selections include chicken, vegetarian lasagna, BBQ pork ribs, and beef burgundy. The menus are subject to change.'

What to Bring

  • Ten Essentials (click here), water (1 to 1.5 liters )
  • Sun Protection and layered clothing 
  • Carry Emergency Contact Information (ICE).
  • Sturdy hiking footwear with good tread and adequate drinking water are required. 
  • Payment for your dinner if applicable.
