PS - Hike: Lost Palms Oasis

The trail to Lost Palms Oasis in Joshua Tree National Park begins at Cottonwood Spring at the southern entrance of the park. One of the largest palm oases in the park, second to Munsen Canyon, the trail proceeds through sandy washes and rolling hills until you reach the oasis overlook where the trail descends into the palms.
 

  • Trail Length: 7.4 miles
  • Total elevation gain: 700'
  • Difficulty Rating: moderate plus* (There will be some boulder scrambling descending into and out of the oasis.
  • Trail Type: Out and back.
  • Hiking Time: 4 hours
  • Distance to trailhead approximately 51 miles.

Departure Time: 8 a.m.

Departure Location: PetSmart - Ramon/Crossley, Palm Springs: Map Click Here. Meet at the north/east corner parking lot around 7:45 a.m. for the 8 a.m. departure.

Fees/Charges: Joshua Tree Park entrance fee or bring your entrance card.

*Hiking Requirements - Although the trail is mostly gentle rolling hills, except for the final steep descent into the oasis, the elevation is at 3,000 feet, so you will need to be in good physical condition for this hike. Click here for more information.

Bring Ten Essentials (click here) - water (2 to 3 liters recommended), and trail snacks. Sun protection and layered clothing are recommended. Carry Emergency Contact Information (ICE). Sturdy hiking footwear with good tread is required.
