PS - Hike: Vargas Palms

Discover a hidden oasis located at the base of the San Jacinto Mt.  Experience up close the fault line at the base of the mountain with the remarkable steep slope.

  • 9:00 am Meet at Carl's Jr. parking lot 2520 N Palm Canyon Dr, Palm Springs, CA MAP
  • Distance: 4.1 miles out and back. 
  • Difficulty: Moderately challenging (terrain is sand, rocky, old road, with multiple dry stream crossings)
  • Elevation:  700 ft total. Gradual climb then the last 500 yards is  uphill climb around and over boulders, nothing technical, but this last half mile is a bit of a challenge due to vegetation and rock obstacles. 

What to Bring: Ten Essentials (click here), water (1 to 2 liters recommended), trail snacks. Sun protection and layered clothing are recommended. Carry Emergency Contact Information (ICE). Hiking poles may be helpful.

Sturdy hiking footwear with good tread and adequate drinking water are required.

Dogs:  As this is BLM land, dogs are permitted.  However, the palm oasis is an habitat of the Big Horn Sheep; therefore, bringing dogs is discouraged.

Carpooling is encouraged and may be available if offered by driver. You are responsible for arranging you own transportation or ride share. Arrive a few minutes early for briefing and carpooling.  Distance to trailhead (Snow Creek Canyon Rd) is 12 miles.
