Henderson, Shannon, Bern, Arby Loop

This hike offers panoramic views of Palm Springs and the San Jacinto Mountains after a steep climb up the Shannon Trail. We plan to hike at a moderate pace, starting and ending at Araby Road.

  • Trail Length: 5.0 mile loop
  • Hiking 
  • Time: 3 1/2 hours
  • Total Elevation Gain/Loss: 1,300 feet
  • Maximum Elevation: 1,522 feet
  • Difficulty Rating: Moderate plus with a long, steep climb with numerous switchbacks
  • Expected time of return: noon
  • Terrain: well-established trail and narrow in spots. Parts of the trail are used by equestrians and mountain bikers.

Hiking Requirements (How can I tell if a hike is for me?):  You will need to be in good physical condition for this hike. Click here for more information. This hike is rated Moderate; generally suitable for novice hikers who want a bit of a challenge. The terrain will involve a moderate incline and have some steeper sections. 

Meeting Place:  Araby Drive off of 111 to the dirt parking lot on the left at the end of the wash.  (Map click here)

Meeting Time:  We will gather about 8:15 and begin the hike at 8:30.

Bring: Ten Essentials, water (2 to 3 liters recommended), lunch/ snacks, sun protection, layered clothing, hiking poles may be helpful. Carry emergency contact information. Sturdy hiking footwear with good tread and adequate drinking water are required.
